Q is for Quiet

The world is a man made cacophony of noise, it’s up to us to listen for the quiet places where signal breaks through.

For example, while on a train from New York to Boston, George Gershwin listened to that noise and found the story of America:

It was on the train, with its steely rhythms, its rattle-ty bang that is often so stimulating to a composer (I frequently hear music in the very heart of noise) that I suddenly heard — and even saw on paper — the complete construction of the Rhapsody from beginning to end. …I heard it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America — of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our metropolitan madness. By the time I reached Boston I had the definite plot of the piece. ~ Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin

An Ode to Silence: Why You Need It in Your Life

Silence offers opportunities for self-reflection and daydreaming, which activates multiple parts of the brain. It gives us time to turn down the inner noise and increase awareness of what matters most. And it cultivates mindfulness — recognition and appreciation of the present moment. ~ Why you need more silence in your life
