In this interview, Ms. Spalding is referring to the mothering of children. However, there are many ways to be a mother.

For instance, I don’t have kids, but I’m definitely a ‘mother of ideas’ and spend a large amount of my time nurturing the dreams of others. There are also many fathers doing amazing jobs of mothering their children. And, we all know that there are community members who have been tending the seeds planted over the years, fed by hope, watered by tears and kept safe for the next generation.
