Building Wealth by Reframing our Dynamic Natural Assets

I’ve been referring to DNA as ‘Dynamic Natural Assets’ since 2003, when the Cultural Strategy concept came to me. However, it was just a bit of word play until 2018 when I realized the power of reframing the imagery, replacing A-G-C-T [Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, Thymine] with W-K-I-D [Wisdom, Knowledge, Information, Data] as the building blocks of sustainable life.

As I organize the content for the forthcoming Field Guide to Flourishing podcast & book, I’m spending a lot of time going through my many notebooks for my original images & patterns. The concepts began coming to me in 2016, became clearer in 2017 and I made these sketches during a Regenerative Design class in 2018:

Original WKID DNA sketch, 2018

As I read an article about a DNA discovery this week, I was super excited to see a parallel to my rough drawn concept, i.e., the ‘twisted knot’ is our biological wealth exchange…

The discovery of what’s described as a ‘twisted knot’ of DNA in living cells confirms our complex genetic code is crafted with more intricate symmetry than just the double helix structure everybody associates with DNA. Importantly, the forms these molecular variants take affect how our biology functions.
