What is Peace?
Peace is a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence of hostility and violence. In a social sense, peace is commonly used to mean a lack of conflict (such as war) and freedom from fear of violence between individuals or groups. ~ Wikipedia
Why is peace so difficult to sustain?
First and foremost, we don’t know what it feels like. Of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. [‘What Everyone Should Know About War’]
Secondly, even if we desire peace, we cannot do it alone. We’ve heard of those who leave the world to find peace. But they leave behind those who need it most. Peace is a collaborative process, we must work together to do the work to #seedrootgrowsustain an economy rooted in peace.
Finally, peace and conflict are intertwined. Just as the irritant makes the pearl, a little conflict is needed to appreciate peace. The yin/yang symbol is a simple way to express this balance:
